Last Thursday, the Woodward-Granger cross country team ran at the Roland-Story Invitational in Story City. This meet had heavy competition and with the sun beating down most of the night, it definitely required endurance.
Middle school girls started off the meet in the two mile race. Katie Grell led the pack at 16:04.14, Sydney Grell at 16:49.13, Mackenzie Dresback with 16:56.86, and Kaitlyn Smith finished with 18:56.36.
The middle school boys were next. Trevor Faultonson got a time of 12:56.15 (13th place), and Lucas Hansen ran a time of 18:52.
Varsity girls then ran the 5k. Josie Noland led the team at 24:04.14, then followed by Regan Kaufman with 25:20.94, soon came Natalie Helbling at 25:24.7, Savannah David with 27:22.66, and Natalie Faultonson with 31:17.86. The Hawks placed 11th as a team.
The varsity boys finished off the night. Chandler Cavanaugh led the team with a time of 20:12.17, followed by Hunter Pierce with 20:46.71, Cody Garland with 20:54.65, Kaya Bowlsby with 22:00.97, Alex Bice with 22:20.01, and Andrew Anderson with 22:34.91. The boys placed 12th as a team.
